Motor Design Limited (MDL) is completely committed to supporting emerging green technology and renewable energy.
The software is already helping to drive the green revolution and the viability of renewable energy. It is used by electric vehicle and aircraft manufacturers to optimize the size of motors and reduce CO2 emissions. MDL's product is also used to ensure that green alternatives, such as wind generators, have the correct cooling.
In partnership with the University of Bristol and Adapted Solutions, MDL are part of the EU's Clean Skies Joint Technology Initiative. MDL is developing thermal models for novel motor and generator topologies to aid the design of a new Helicopter Electric Regenerative Rotor Brake (HERRB) for AgustaWestland Helicopters. MDL's expertise enables the development of reliable models that can work with other models to ensure reliable system simulation leading to optimum design.
ELETAD is another partnership project, this time with the Universities of Bristol and Bucharest and Lucchi Rimini Elettromecanica. MDL is contributing to the development and build of a prototype electric tail rotor for AgustaWestland Helicopters. This is another Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative funded by the EU.

MDL is helping to bring green energy to households in the UK and Ireland. Our experts are providing the expertise to support the design and manufacture of a state-of-the-art series of wind turbines. These are equipped with direct driven permanent magnet machines and cover a power range from 6kW to 100kW.
